TCL's QM7K brings Mini LED backlighting and Quantum Dot color to a 55-inch 4K panel with a 144Hz refresh rate — here's whether $498 is actually worth it.

What you're getting for five hundred bucks

The QM7K is TCL's mid-tier QD-Mini LED line for 2025, which means you're getting a Quantum Dot layer for wider color volume on top of a Mini LED backlight that delivers far better local dimming than a standard edge-lit panel. The 144Hz refresh rate is a genuine bonus — useful for PC gaming via HDMI 2.1 or just smoother motion on sports. Google TV is a mature platform with solid app support. At $498 for a 55-inch panel with this spec list, you'd pay noticeably more for a comparable Sony or Samsung.

The honest considerations before you buy

A few things worth knowing: the QM7K sits below TCL's QM8 in the lineup, so peak brightness and zone count are lower — blooming around bright objects on dark backgrounds is still possible, just less severe than a basic LED set. Google TV also surfaces ads on the home screen by default, which bothers some people. And TCL's panel consistency can vary unit to unit. If you're watching in a bright room or primarily doing HDR movie nights rather than gaming, the step-up to a higher-zone-count set may be worth budgeting for.
